Blood cells
Red Blood Cells (RBC)
- The most plentiful cells in our blood (≈45%)
- They contain a protein called hemoglobin that carries oxygen to our cells and transports carbon dioxide back to heart to be exhaled.
- Hemoglobin also is responsible for the colour of blood.
- Platelets are not a part of RBC but another component of blood which is responsible for clotting.
White Blood Cells (WBC)
- “Soldiers” of the blood stream
- ≈1 WBC for every 650 RBC
- Act as a defence against infection by seeking out antigens and destroying them
